Nick Sirianni is the new Eagles Head Coach
The Eagles search for a new Head Coach is over, and it is someone from the Frank Reich coaching tree. Nick Sirianni will officially be the new head coach of the team after successfully interviewing with Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman.
Sirianni has impressed during his three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, and managed to successfully mould offenses to the strengths of the three different starting quarterbacks he had. If Jacoby Brissett had not gotten injured in 2019, he could have possibly helped Reich to three successive playoff seasons. An exciting hire for the Birds, and we will have more updates and information follow @AATBirds on Twitter.
Eagles to interview Kellen Moore Wednesday
Having requested to interview with Kellen Moore last week, the Eagles will finally meet the Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator on Wednesday. Moore will join New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen in interviewing with Jeffrey Lurie for the vacant head coach job.
Eagles to interview Dennis Allen on Wednesday
New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen will meet with Jeffrey Lurie and the Eagles for an interview on Wednesday. Allen has been the Saints' defensive coordinator since 2015, and has helped turn the New Orleans defense into one of the NFL's best.
He also has head coaching experience with the Raiders, but struggled in his two seasons there. However, he did take the job with the team in salary cap trouble and lacking draft picks. The Saints were also eliminated from the playoffs on Sunday night.
Eagles interested in John Fassel
The Eagles have shown an interest in Dallas Cowboys special teams coordinator John Fassel, and it would be the second time that they have approached the Cowboys to interview a coach during the hiring process. Fassel has been a special teams coach throughout the entirety of his NFL career.
Nick Sirianni to interview with the Eagles
Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni will interview for the Eagles head coach position on Tuesday. Sirianni has been with the Colts since 2018, and also worked with the Kansas City Chiefs and LA Chargers. The 39-year-old has spent a lot of his career working closely with quarterbacks and wide receivers, two areas that the Eagles have struggled with in recent seasons.
Todd Bowles had his interview for the vacant head coach position on Monday.
Eagles out on Kafka
The Eagles are officially no longer interested in speaking to Kansas City Chiefs quarterbacks coach Mike Kafka. There was initial interest in Kafka, but now it appears the Eagles want to go down another route.
Teams can interview playoff coaches virtually
Todd Bowles' interview with the Eagles will be a virtual one. Coaches that are still in the playoffs can interview with teams virtually as long as they have their team's consent.
Todd Bowles to interview with the Eagles
Fresh off their impressive victory in the SuperDome, Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles will interview for the Eagles head coaching role today.
Chargers hire Brandon Staley
Late last night, Brandon Staley was confirmed as the new head coach of the LA Chargers. He was scheduled to interview with the Eagles on Monday.
McDaniels 12 hour interview
John Clark reported on Sunday night that New England Patriots offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels, had an interview with Leff Lurie from mid-morning till beyond 9pm.
Brandon Staley to interview with the Eagles Monday
The Eagles will interview LA Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley on Monday. This comes after the Rams were eliminated by the Green Bay Packers in the playoffs.
Eagles request Eric Bienemy interview
The Eagles have requested to interview Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy. The 51-year-old has received a lot of praise for the exciting play designs in KC, and has also been credited for helping Patrick Mahomes' meteoric rise.
Bienemy will not be able to meet with the Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman until the Chiefs are eliminated from the playoffs. That could be as early as next week if KC loses to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
Eagles to interview Josh McDaniels
New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will interview with the Eagles on Sunday. It came after the team submitted a request to meet with the long-time New England coach on Saturday. McDaniels has worked with quarterbacks since 2004 and was the Denver Broncos head coach for the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
The 44-year-old has experience as a head coach and has been leading offenses since 2005. With the Eagles going in for someone with vast experience with quarterbacks, it could coincide with Saturday's reports. This is in regards to Lurie and Roseman preferring candidates who would favour working with Carson Wentz. McDaniels could be their solution to fixing Wentz's issues.
Eagles request Brandon Staley interview
The Eagles have requested an interview with LA Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley. Having led the number one scoring defense in the NFL this season, Staley will be a hot candidate for the remaining teams. Although, he will not be able to interview until the Rams are eliminated from the playoffs. Their fate will be decided Saturday night as they play in Green Bay against the Packers.
If hired, Staley would bring an attractive supporting cast of defensive assistants.
Atlanta Falcons announce Smith as Head Coach
The Atlanta Falcons announced Arthur Smith as their new head coach on Friday afternoon. Smith had interviewed with the yesterday, but it appears that it came too late in the day. Another team has their head coach, and it is another coach that had interviewed with Lurie.
Eagles interview schedule for Friday
The Eagles interviewed Jerod Mayo this morning, and will interview running backs coach Duce Staley later this afternoon. It has been a quieter day on the head coach front for the Eagles, and more work will likely be done following this weekends divisional round in the playoffs.
In demand coaches Brandon Staley, Eric Bienemy, Brian Daboll and Mike Kafka will all be coaching this weekend. The results of the divisional round will likely control how Jeffrey Lurie and the Eagles approach the search next week.
Staley to interview with the Eagles Friday
The Eagles are set to interview running backs coach Duce Staley on Friday. He and Jerod Mayo will both be interviewed, meaning the total number of candidates interviewed will be five. Staley interviewed for the head coach position in 2016, but lost out to Doug Pederson.
Jets hire Saleh
The New York Jets officially announce the hiring of Robert Saleh as their head coach. Saleh had an interview with the Eagles today, but his second interview with the Jets must have sealed the deal for him.
He becomes the second head coach hired today after the Jacksonvile Jaguars announced Urban Meyer as their new head coach.
Eagles interview Smith
The Eagles interviewed Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator, Arthur Smith earlier this afternoon. He became the second coach to interview with Jeffrey Lurie after Robert Saleh met with him earlier in the day.
Smith has already had two interviews with the Atlanta Falcons, and will meet with the Detroit Lions tomorrow.
Mayo expected to interview Friday
Patriots inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo is expected to interview for the vacant head coach position tomorrow. If Mayo is unsuccessful, he could still be a candidate for the defensive coordinator. A big move for the Eagles considering their lack of regard towards linebackers in recent seasons. Could signal a change in attitude when addressing the position.
Eagles request Moore interview
The Eagles have requested to interview Kellen Moore, the offensive coordinator from their arch-rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. Moore, who is 32-years-old, has been a coach with the Cowboys since 2018 and became offensive coordinator in 2019.
It may be a move that leaves Eagles fans heads scratching, but he has done a good job with that Cowboys offense and has improved Dak Prescott's game as a passer. Even if the Eagles do not take Moore's application further than an interview, they will have at least gotten a little insight into their division rival's playbook.
Eagles to interview Arthur Smith on Thursday
The Eagles are to interview Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator, Arthur Smith later today. Smith will be the third coach the team has officially interviewed for the vacant head coach position. He met with the Atlanta Falcons yesterday, and will meet with the Jets before flying to Florida. He has an interview with the Detroit Lions on Friday.
Saleh given the royal treatment
San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh flew to Florida to meet Jeffrey Lurie for his first Eagles interview last night. It came after his second interview with the New York Jets. Saleh is the only coach to have received two interviews with the New York franchise. Lurie was keen to meet with the in-demand coach and wasted no time ensuring he could meet with him. There is no word on how the interview went.
Daboll interest
The Eagles have reported interest in Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. He is a man in high demand having turned Josh Allen into an elite quarterback. It could be viewed as the route to go down if Jeff Lurie and Howie Roseman wanted to make sure they tried everything in fixing Carson Wentz.
Eagles interview Joe Brady
The Eagles have officially interviewed their first candidate in Joe Brady. The Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator was part of the LSU coaching staff that helped Joe Burrow to his historic season in 2019. The 31-year-old would be one of the youngest head coaches in the league if hired.
Duce Staley asked to be interviewed
According to sources, the Eagles are expected to ask running backs coach Duce Staley to interview for the vacant head coach's position. Staley has been with the team as a coach since 2011 and became the Assistant head coach in 2018. The interest in Staley from outside of the organisation could be high, especially with teams like Seattle needing an offensive coordinator. However, Duce has gotten support from former and current players to be considered for the role.
Eagles unable to interview Kafka till after SuperBowl
The Eagles would have to wait until Kansas City's playoff journey is done before they interview their passing-game coordinator Mike Kafka. Adam Caplan believes that the interest in Kafka is a strong one.
Eagles expected to interview Jerod Mayo
Mayo is a long-time Patriot having played for the franchise for the entirety of his eight-year career. He became New England's inside linebackers coach in 2019, and this is the first time in consideration for a Head Coach's role.
It is a move that would intrigue a lot of Eagles fans. This is due to the years of neglect, the current regime has shown to the linebacker position. However, it does show that Jeff Lurie and Howie Roseman have been listening to their critics. Even if Mayo was unsuccessful in becoming head coach, some believe that he could become the next Eagles, defensive coordinator.
Eagles request Arthur Smith Interview
The Eagles requested to speak with the Titans offensive coordinator late on Tuesday morning following Tennessee's exit from the playoffs. Smith has been with the Titans since 2011 and has slowly climbed the ranks of the organisation till he became the offensive coordinator.
Midway through the 2019 season Ryan Tannehill became the Titans starting quarterback. It led to Smith moulding his offense around the strengths of the former Dolphins first-round pick. Those changes led the Titans to the AFC Championship game and revitalised Tannehill's career. Thus, turning him into their franchise quarterback for the foreseeable future. The Eagles currently have a quarterback in their ranks who could do with something similar. After Smith revitalised and saved one career, Lurie and Roseman's thought process could be that he can do it for Carson Wentz also.
Eagles request Todd Bowles interview
Bowles became the Tampay Bay defensive coordinator last year as he reconnected with his former Head Coach Bruce Arians. Before that, Bowles was the Head Coach of the New York Jets between 2015-2018 before being replaced by Adam Gase. The Buccaneers coach has history in Philadelphia. He was the secondary coach and interim defensive coordinator during the 2012 season.
Going for Bowles is a move that somewhat makes sense with the Eagles defensive mantra of shutting down the run. The Bucs had the number one ranked rushing defense in the NFL this season, and finished as the sixth best defense in total yards. Having seen the Eagles struggle to defend the run all year, Lurie and Roseman may feel that rebuilding that solid defensive foundation is necessary. Even if they do not go for Bowles, they will have a clear outline for his defensive plan. This could lead to them interviewing defensive coaches in the Bucs organisation to become the Eagles defensive coordinator.
Eagles request Robert Saleh interview
Saleh was approached even earlier this morning than the other two candidates as the Eagles wasted no time in their hunt for a new Head Coach. However, it appears that the Eagles will need to act fast with the New York Jets bringing him in for a second interview later today.
Saleh was hired as the 49ers defensive coordinator in 2017, and it was last year where he made a name for himself. His defense spearheaded the San Francisco Super Bowl charge as they dominated all over the field, leading with their defensive line. It was the Eagles recipe for success on defense in 2017, and it could be something that Lurie and Roseman believe will bring them back to the same heights. The 49ers may have missed out on the playoffs, but their defense did a magnificent job of keeping them competitive, even with so many stars missing time. Saleh was openly praised by Richard Sherman too which speaks volumes.
Although it appears Saleh may not come to Philly, getting an interview with him is a great idea. They will get a feel for San Fran's defense, and it could lead to them interviewing position coaches to become the new Eagles, defensive coordinator.
Eagles reportedly contact Oklahoma about Riley
As talks about Lincoln Riley potentially being a top candidate grew, this report broke late last night and was the first mention of any Eagles approach for a new head coach.
Riley and Eagles General Manager, Howie Roseman are supposedly good friends, and sources believe Riley gave Roseman advice during the 2020 draft. Riley joining the Eagles could spell the end for Carson Wentz. Hurts and Riley worked together for a year at Oklahoma in 2019 as he helped the second-round quarterback become a Heisman Trophy contender. If the 37-year-old was to take the job, he could lean towards sticking with the quarterback he has already worked with, thus seeing Wentz moved on. Jeff Lurie indicated that one of Hurts or Wentz could be traded at a later date. This came after calling both players assets as opposed to players.
However, just because Riley worked with Hurts does not mean he would automatically role with him. Throughout his time at Oklahoma, he has worked hard at putting his quarterbacks in the best position to be successful, thus, moulding an offense around their strengths. He could be brought in with the expectations of doing the same for Wentz.
