The Union returned home after a two-game road trip and left Subaru Park with a 0-0 result against Nashville. Today, we’ll briefly recap last Saturday’s draw and preview the Union’s road game against the New England Revolution.
Can’t Beat the Backups
Nashville SC is a formidable squad, which is obvious from their run through the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Prior to last Saturday’s match, Nashville hosted Liga MX side Tigres and lost 1-0 at GEODIS Park. Considering their second leg of this competition was on May 5th, B.J. Callaghan rotated his squad when they visited Subaru Park. The Boys in Blue have struggled to earn points this season, and despite Callaghan’s roster moves, the Union were unable to capitalize at home.
Nashville started the match with key players like Najar, Espinoza, and Mukhtar on the bench, while their prolific goal scorer, Sam Surridge, was out with an injury. In the first half, Philly out possessed their visitors but were only able to generate 5 total shots and 2 shots on target. Nashville had 1 total shot with 0 on target in the first 45 minutes. Then, with the score 0-0, Callaghan brought in Najar, Espinoza, and Mukhtar in the 62nd minute. The changes made an obvious impact, and Nashville would out possess the Union 60/40, while also having 7 total shots with 1 on target.
There were a few bright spots for the Union. Cavan Sullivan earned the start and was clearly the most creative player in the Philly attack. We also saw a second half appearance from Agustin Anello who looked a bit like Quinn Sullivan when attacking the net. Unfortunately, 90 minutes came and went, and the Union ended their night with a 0-0 result. If you’re Nashville, you have to be happy with your backups earning a road point in between CCC legs. If you’re Philly, this was another draw that felt like a loss. Sure, you earned another clean sheet, but this is the second consecutive match where you couldn’t score a goal. This is also the third match in four games where the Union have been shut out. Yikes.
The chances are getting closer to scoring for Philly, but this still isn’t good enough from Carnell’s side. Now, they need to figure things out against a top team in the Eastern Conference.
New England Preview
What a start to the season for Marko Mitrović’s group. The Revolution are second in the Eastern Conference with a 6W-1D-3L record, only 4 points behind 1st place Nashville who has 23 points. Additionally, the Revs are really cooking at home. They’re 5W-0D-0L in MLS play at Gillette Stadium, while they hold a 1-1-3 record on the road.
For additional context behind the road record, three of their first four matches were on the road, which gave them a 4-1 loss at Nashville, a 1-0 loss to the Red Bulls, and a 3-1 loss to St. Louis City. However, since the St. Louis defeat, the Revs are unbeaten in six consecutive MLS matches, with 5 wins and a 1-1 draw at Miami.
This New England group was also involved in the U.S. Open Cup. They had a penalty shootout win on April 14th against Rhode Island FC, but lost 4-3 at Centreville Bank Stadium (Pawtucket, Rhode Island) to Orlando City in the Round of 16. They played in Rhode Island due to scheduling conflicts at Gillette Stadium. Despite this “home” loss in Open Cup on April 29th, the Revs were still able to defeat Charlotte FC last Saturday with a second half stoppage time PK from Carles Gil.
Next, the Revs are not only winning games, but they’re putting up goals too. They have 18 goals so far in MLS, with 6 of them coming off set pieces. This team is scoring as a unit too, with Peyton Miller and Carles Gil each having 3 goals and both leading the team in scoring. In total, New England already has 11 goal scorers on the season. Also, a third of the 18 scores has been created by Luca Langoni. The 24-year old Argentinian has 1 goal and 6 assists in 10 MLS matches, which is already 4 more assists than he had in 2025 in 28 MLS games.
Player Availability and Betting Notes
The injury bug has popped up again for the Union. Philadelphia has Japhet Sery Larsen (shoulder), Jesus Bueno (ankle), Eddy Davis III (hamstring), Philippe Ndinga (hamstring), and Quinn Sullivan (knee) listed as out. For the home side, Leo Campana (lower body) is out, while Brayan Ceballos (lower body), Ilay Feingold (lower body), and Matt Polster (lower body) are all questionable. Philadelphia also has Olwethu Makhanya on caution accumulation warning. Sery is too, but he won't be playing on Saturday.
I checked in on DraftKings Monday morning and DK had Revs moneyline at +150, draw +225, and Union at +160. I know the Union have done slightly better of late, but the Revs are handling their business at home. However, when I sat down to finish this article on Friday night, the line had swung in Philly's favor. As of Friday evening, New England moneyline was +160, draw was +230, and Philly was +155. The fact that you can get the Revs at +160 is a steal. Unfortunately, I will continue my fading of the Union and take New England at +160 at home. If you’re interested, the Revs Tie No Bet is -110, which is still really good if you want to play it safer. If you don’t know what Tie No Bet means, it means that a draw will refund your bet. So, there’s a 66% chance that you win or get your money back. For example, last week my only play in my Match Preview was Nashville Tie No Bet. The game ended in a draw, and the bet was returned.
Next, I checked on FotMob and noticed that New England has a +11 goal differential at home. So, I went straight to Total Team Goals and found that New England has a +126 price for over 1.5 total goals. This is an interesting one. Yes, the Union have shut out DC United and Nashville, but DC clearly parked the bus at Subaru Park, and Nashville was heavily rotated. It’s also worth mentioning that the Union gave up three goals at Toronto. I think everything is suggesting that Philly will give up at least 1 goal at Gillette, so I’m taking a flier on Revolution over 1.5 team goals at +126.
Finally, here are a few Anytime Goal Scorers. Carles Gil +265, Bruno Damiani +255, Malik Jakupovic +300, Agustin Anello +360, Luca Langoni +450, and Danley Jean Jacques +700. I'm hopeful that Anello gets the start and surprises us, but I won't be placing a bet on it.
Final Thought
I'm waiting for this team to turn it around, and maybe they will after the World Cup break. However, the Union continue to struggle and can't seem to find the back of the net. Hopefully, we'll see some scoring production at Gillette Stadium. After the match, tune in to AAT Sports Network for our Union post game show. We'll be live on Facebook and Youtube, so hop in the comments and share your thoughts. Doop!
