AAT Sports and MLS writer, Jose Nunez, broke news tonight that Homegrown midfielder, David Vazquez, is being shipped to MLS newcomer, San Diego FC. This transaction is a loan with an option for purchase.

As Jose posted on Twitter, “ Vazquez, 19, signed a Homegrown contract with the Union on April 29, 2024, and made his MLS debut on June 29, coming on for Indiana Vassilev against the Columbus Crew. He made two first-team appearances in total. With Union II, Vazquez has logged 4,284 minutes across 56 matches, recording 10 goals and 10 assists. Internationally, Vazquez has represented the United States at various youth levels, most recently with the U-20s”.

This loan may come as a surprise for Union fans, considering how much praise David has had in his short career. However, it's clear the Union front office is trying to shake up their youth depth. Not long ago, the Union sent CJ Olney to join Cory Burke and other former Union players at Lexington SC in USL. Also, Union II have been linked to Noah Probst of FC St. Gallen; a 6’2” defensive midfielder from the Swiss Super League.

The Summer window opens tomorrow (July 24) through August 21st. We’ll continue to see how Tanner reshapes this club, with their first team contending for an MLS Cup, Supporters' Shield, and Open Cup in 2025.

The Union will be back in action on Saturday night when they host Colorado. Be sure to check out the AAT Sports Network Post Game Show, which goes live 15 minutes after the final whistle on Youtube and Facebook. Doop!!
