3 Eagles Trade Scenarios

Updated: Oct 22, 2020

The NFL Trade Deadline is never as exciting as other sports, but this year with 2021 cap uncertainty could we see an eventual deadline? Philadelphia goes into week 6 1-3-1 and may look to deal some big names as they look towards the future of the team. Here are 3 interesting scenarios that I would be intrigued by come 11/3.

Trade 1: TE Zach Ertz to Colts for LB Bobby Okereke and 2021 3rd Rd

During the offseason he declined a contract that he deemed the insufficient of his production. Ertz has looked disinterested and his play is being effected. Paying Ertz top Tight End money (Kittle, Kelce and Hooper) I just don’t see Philadelphia shelling out the money. The emergence of Goedert and 2021 cap situation think a trade could be on the horizon. What is the weakest part of the Eagles team? Linebacker, Week in and Week our watching Gerry look lost and not much talent leaves the fanbase frustrated. Colts could use a TE like Ertz who is coached by Frank Reich (Ertz’s old OC 16-17) and Eagles could certainly use a young LB like Okereke who is young and makes plays plus a 2021 draft selection as well. Okereke has started 12 games last two seasons and is only 24.

Trade 2: WR JJ Arcega-Whiteside and 2021 6th rd to GB for S Will Redmond

What was expected out of the former 2nd round draft choice hasn’t come to fruition, while the emergence of Travis Fulgham. A change of scenery could be what is needed, Green Bay has struggled with wide receiver injuries. Arcega-Whiteside may need a change of scenery and with a future HOF QB in Aaron Rodgers may help, but his time is midnight green is close to over. Will Redmond would offer a versatile veteran in the banged up Philadelphia secondary who has played 44% of the snaps for GB. This would help give Eagles more options than having to run Marcus Epps out there for 70% of the time. Redmond can line up at multiple positions on the back end and that’s a plus for Philly.

Trade 3: DE Brandon Graham to SF for 2021 4th rd pick

Photo by Michael Corsey This deal is thinking about where you really are right now. Brandon Graham is productive still but is 32 and owed a chunk of money (17.9 mil 2021 Cap Hit). We have talked about the 2021 Cap situation for Philadelphia next season, Looking like Derek Barnett starting to show a little life at DE could be signed long-term and Josh Sweat also emerging could prove to make BG expendable. San Francisco has dealt with a multitude of Injuries especially on the Defensive Line (Nick Bosa, Solomon Thomas, Dee Ford, Ronald Blair, Ziggy Ansah). The 49ers are currently running out Kerry Hyder, Dion Jordan and Alex Barrett running opposite Arik Armstead, Graham would improve that unit. Eagles would be able to clear cap space for 2021 plus add a 4th round selection to add to a team ready for some youth. It would be very hard to see a fan favorite and productive player like Graham leave town, but there may be some tough decisions made ahead of the deadline.
