Philadelphia Union II battled to a 2-1 win with FC Cincinnati II in an exciting match on the road. The team lined up in their typical 4-4-2/4-2-4 formation, with Cavan Sullivan standing out by providing both assists. The goals came from Eddie Davis and Neil Pierre, giving Union II the edge despite not earning a clean sheet. This marks the second time Union II has come out on top against Cincinnati II, following their earlier 1-0 home win.

The match was everything Union II fans would expect in regards to playstyle. The focus was to be direct, aggressive, and hard to beat. This was emphasized by the attacking rotation in the second half. All four attacking players were subbed for like-minded forwards. Pace, energy, and physicality were brought to the match from minute one, with both starters and rotation options contributing to the victory. Although the playstyle is predictable, it has proven to be hard to handle, and yesterday was another demonstration of that.

Cavan Sullivan Shines

Cavan Sullivan was once again the creative spark for Union II. His composure on the ball and ability to set up teammates sets him apart from most in the league and make him a crucial player for the squad. When he is not on the pitch, his absence is felt as the team misses his vision and skill in front of the goal. Sullivan’s contributions are vital to the team’s success, and his performance yesterday reinforced why he is so important to the squad. He often found himself in a right-sided position where he could effectively cut in, onto his left foot. His left-footed cross was a perfectly floated ball into Niel Pierre that marked the beginning of a great match for Sullivan.

Isaiah LeFlore Moves to Detroit City FC

Union II defender Isaiah LeFlore has been loaned to Detroit City FC. LeFlore was a big part of Union II’s defense, but with the senior team spot fully locked down by Kai Wagner, he had limited opportunities to move up the depth chart. This move gives him a chance to take the next step in his career and make a name for himself elsewhere.

George Marks Earns Start in Goal

Goalkeeper George Marks got his opportunity in goal after joining Union II from Crown Legacy. He played a solid match and showed why he is a strong addition to the squad. With frequent injuries to Andre Blake, the Union needed to dip into the market in search of more goalkeeping depth. Marks will most likely find opportunities hard to come by in the senior team, but he is already making his impact felt for Union II.

Playoff Berth Clinched

With this result, Union II has officially clinched a playoff spot in the MLS Next Pro Playoffs. This achievement comes right after the senior team also clinched a playoff berth with their own win over Cincinnati on Saturday. The squad now sits in second place in the table with four games remaining, including two away and two at home.

Their next match is Sunday, September 14th, in Columbus, after a short break coming up for international matches. The regular season will wrap up on October 5th at home against NYCFC. While clinching a playoff spot is a big milestone, the team’s focus remains on maintaining its position and playing well. Once the playoffs begin, anything can happen. Teams on the edge of the table could find momentum, and the outcome can go either way. Union II will look to stay strong and finish the season on a high note.
