THE PERFECT EAGLES DRAFT?

Today I had the chance to sit in on the annual zoom meeting with NFL Network draft analyst, Daniel Jeremiah.

Alongside over 100 other team representatives we pick DJ’s mind on the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft.

THE AIR IS THIN UP HERE

Every year NFL scouts compile a list of their “can’t miss prospects”, usually boasting the top 15-20 college players who are labeled “blue chips”. This year the top is thin, with about 8-10 true elite, ready to go athletes. Names like; Jalen Carter, Bijan Robinson, Will Anderson, Tyree Wilson, and Bryce Young. Are all guys Daniel has extreme faith in, but then there’s a significant drop off.

PROJECTION OVER PRODUCTION

There are a couple of players in this years draft who may be drafted off what they can be more so than what they are. The leading candidates for this are Tyree Wilson,Paris Johnson, and Lukas Van Ness. Tyree and Lukas coming off the edge are two Uber athletic players who have analysts and scouts salivating at the thought of what they could potentially grow into in the NFL. Paris Johnson jr is looked at as one of the top OT’s in this class but he still needs to get stronger, any NFL team grabbing him early would be doing so with the hope he in fact can do so.

THE BEST IN TEN YEARS

While Tight-end isn’t a glaring need for Philadelphia, Daniel said this was the best class of TE’s he has seen in the last ten years. Dallas Goedert is the guy for Philly but could there be room for an upgrade at TE2? Great prospects could bode well for Philly if they find themselves in position to grab a top guy in day 2, or 3.

PERFECT DRAFT FOR PHILLY

While I can’t understate the lack of top tier talent in this draft. It is VERY deep at some positions of need. 20 cornerbacks have a 3rd round grade or higher, 13 RBS with a 3rd round grade or higher, and a bevy of Edge rushers through day 3. This could be the perfect draft for the Philadelphia Eagles as they look to replace some productive veterans at all 3 spots.
