Jack Elliott and Kacper Przybylko Press Conference Recap

Jack Elliott and Kacper Przybylko spoke to the media after scoring in Philadelphia Union's 3-0 win over Portland Timbers on Sunday.

Przybylko played a vital part in two of the first-half goals and even set up Leon Flach for what was believed to be his first Union goal. However, VAR ruled it out for a handball. All three of these goals came from set pieces in which Przybylko was targeted, and he won the headers.

For Przybylko, he is delighted that the team's hard work with set pieces is finally paying off.

Elliott grabbed his first goal of the season and was happy to get on the scoresheet, as he all but sealed the three points for the Union.

"It always feels good to score, and it doesn't really matter how it comes. It feels good. I thought that I didn't want to do the knee slide and get it chalked off for offside, so I didn't do too much.

"It was an important one at that time of the game to almost bury them. In the last 15 minutes, they came at us a bit and gave it a really good go."

It proved to be a comfortable night for the Union defensively as they prevented Portland from creating much in attack. Elliott and his defensive partner Jakob Glesnes had another solid showing as their defensive partnership continues to grow.

The British defender credits their understanding of each others game as a key part of their immediate success.

Behind the two centre backs is goalkeeper Andre Blake. The first overall pick in the 2014 MLS Draft has been an ever-present for Philadelphia, cementing himself as the best keeper in the MLS.

All About the Birds writer Mike Barrera asked the pair about the influence of Blake's leadership on and off the field. Elliott and Przybylko were full of praise for the brick wall in the Union goal.

Elliott said: "He's definitely a guy that's very set here. He helps inspire players and helps to gee us up. You can see on the pitch too that it isn't just the words he comes out with, and it's the saves and those kinds of moments as well."

Przybylko followed it up saying "You can always count on him, and he's so strong. It's incredible how he sometimes saves the ball, and it's so important for us. We're doing a great job as a team defending and keeping clean sheets, but when there's one sloppy moment, you know there's 'Dre, and he's going to save it for us."

Sunday's win was the final game before a long international break. Both Elliott and Przybylko will remain with the squad during the time off and believe that this break will be crucial for the squad.
