Ernst Tanner & Daniel Gazdag Press Conference Recap

Philadelphia Union Sporting Director Ernst Tanner and new signing Daniel Gazdag spoke to the media on Tuesday Afternoon.

Tanner began the press conference by speaking about his excitement for signing a player like Gazdag and explained the qualities he possesses.

Tanner said: "With his versatility and in particular his scoring ability, he can be a real contributor to our success and hopefully future success. I wish him all the best and a good integration with the squad."

Due to his involvement at Honved and the issues presented by COVID-19, Gazdag could not join the Union earlier.

Tanner issued an update on the situation and when Gazdag is likely to get involved with the team.

He said: "Unfortunately, it's not in our hands. We are running through the immigration process. We got approval on section 41 already, but now we need to work with the Embassy of Hungary.

"I don't know how quick that process can be because it's not in our hands, but I hope we will see him in the next two weeks."

Gazdag gave his first statement as a Philadelphia Union player by praising his new team.

Gazdag said: "I saw that Philadelphia won the Supporters Shield, and I think Philadelphia is a good team, and I am happy to join them."

The 25-year-old is viewed as a very versatile player that can play anywhere in the midfield and attack. However, Gazdag used his first meeting with the media as a chance to tell them where he is best suited.

He said: "I think I'm more of a midfielder although I have played as an attacker. The best positions for me are at the eight and the ten. I think I'm truly a midfielder."

It will be the first time in Gazdag's career that he will be playing outside of Hungary. The midfielder has been with Honved since 2010 and admits that it will take some getting used to when adjusting to his new surroundings.

Gazdag said: "I have almost spent my entire career at Honved, and it's going to feel a little strange and weird during the first couple of days. At the same time, I'm very excited about this opportunity, and I'm looking forward to working with the team."

Gazdag comes to the Union after playing a full season in Hungarian football, and his schedule will not slow down.

Despite this, Gazdag is optimistic about featuring for the Union soon.

He said: "I do have a very busy schedule. Hopefully, soon I'll be able to travel to Philadelphia and will be able to spend a week or two there. Then I will have to come back to play in the National Team to play in the European Championships."

Before the end of the press conference, Gazdag had a message for the Union fans.

He said: "I'm really looking forward to meeting them [the fans]. I was very happy to see that the MLS has opened the stadiums. Back home fans aren't allowed to attend, so I'm looking forward to meeting them."
